Anglia Report for Sunday 1st June 2008
Although the day was overcast and drizzly 18 members met in Alpington, Norfolk to drop off their picnics at Jonathan’s parent’s cottage. We then continued a little further into the village of Berghampton where we parked up and started our trek. We all set off in walking boots, backpacks and waterproofs – the sculptures were all set in 12 different gardens throughout the village – some were easily deciphered and others a bit more elusive and left a lot to your imagination. After the 4th garden our party seemed to have split into two groups with the exception of Thomas who was a deserted soul and took himself on a different route, and he thought everyone was following – only they didn’t. Eventually at garden 8 Thomas caught up with the 2nd group and he seemed to have got his second wind! We continued all the way round the village – probably about 3-4 miles in all and ended up back at Jonathan’s parents. Whilst in garden 2 we had a phone call from the 1st group saying – “where are you? We are back and ready to eat”. It seems that they cheated and jumped on a bus that was travelling around the village as they didn’t have the stamina to complete the whole course! (We should have volunteered them to do the washing up and make the tea – but we didn’t). We were all very hungry and tucked into our feasts. As Thomas had walked more miles than everyone else he was extra hungry so after finishing his lunch he then proceeded to finish everyone’s fruit and biscuits!
Photographs were shown on Thomas’s laptop of our visit the previous month to the gyro museum followed by letters of thanks received from Wing Commander Wallis and also from his two char_ities that our donation went to.
Discussion took place regarding September’s meeting on the boat and deposits were taken. The choice of menu is Roast Beef, or Chicken with a vegetarian option. Anyone not at the meeting could you please let me know your choice – thanks.
We were not having a meeting in July as most of us will be on holiday in Northumberland but the following meeting (August) is our annual BBQ at Den & Chris’s. Chris has requested that you let her know if you intend coming.
After a very enjoyable day Jonathan ferried members back to the car park to collect their cars – unfortunately the exit was through a slurry pit – ugh! What a pong! Barrie was very concerned about his new car, but I don’t think it faired too badly.
Thank you Jonathan (and your parents for the use of their house and garden) for a really different and good day out. See you all soon.
Ali.
